processing experiments

Hello,

I am looking at how processing plays with video and picture inputs, and working through the tutorials, which so far has resulted of this attractive picture of me, in bed!
Enjoy,

Playing with GPS

Hi again,

Yes, I like this new stuff (for me): Maps! During these days I have been playing around with the GPS tool of my mobile phone, looking for my position, routes, etc.
On Sunday I registered the route from my home to the university (to Sport Centre)
Here are some screen shots of maps of my mobile phone.

Example GPS Information:
Map 1 (Going Out):
           Latitude: 50º49'39.78"N
           Longitude: 0º08'56.98"W
           Position accuracy: 25.71 m
           Altitude 125 cm
           Altitude accuracy 26 m

So, with this data my idea was to draw a map with all those data but I couldn`d to dit... So if you have any idea, please tell me. I have the route on my phone (as a map) but I would like to draw it like this, maybe drawing by hand:

Experimenting with Video

Hello all,

For this weeks experiment I decided to try and make a film with my mobile phone exploring movement. I started by making a few short films of me walking places (all of different lengths), specifically looking for lines and shapes. I then decided to link them all together into one larger narrative. I decided to play them all simultaneously in a grid, made using Flash.

I was interested in films that would conceptually play forever without repeating. By looping each video constantly the composite image is unlikely to ever be repeated. Also, the camera on my phone only outputted low quality videos, by playing many simultaneously, I was able to overcome this technical problem, with what I feel is a relatively creative solution.

The playing of the videos simultaneously has some good effects in my opinion. It creates a sense of being in multiple places simultaneously, highlighting the ubiquitous aspects of the technology, whilst the movement in the images attempted to highlight the 'mobile' aspects. Lastly, this video relates to my recent interests in craft, in particular the patchwork quilt, which I would at some point like to make. The composite image is also quite hard to follow, in retrospect quite similar to work by NamJune Paik. This relates to the overload of data we witness in modern society.

Exploring my mobile phone and Brighton

Hello everyone!

First of all, I got a new mobile phone with Bluetooth and even more!! so I am very happy and excited with the idea of exploring this new mobile toy. Because of that, this weekend I decided to walk in Brighton looking for stores with discounts for students to embed that information on a Google Map.
I have to confess that when I did this project I didn't know how to use maps on my cellphone so I took photos to stores, wrote the information on my mobile phone and then I worked with Google Maps on my laptop. Probably now I would do that different, using maps on my mobile phone, but that is part of learning process :).

I will use this map to New Development course also, because we are working with maps there and it is very related with Mobile and Locative concepts. I have some further ideas to do with this map, thinking in the idea of giving information to students in Brighton.

Have a look:
