an Alternative to the Keyboard

Hi,

i am experimenting with experimenting with the possibility of connecting a piezo electric sensor as a pressure sensor to trigger a flash video, as am alternative to using an open circuit.
The sensor can be used as a contact mic and so is sensitive to being handled or percussive sounds, and this might provide an interesting interface option. However, I am a bit ware of blowing my macbook up in the process.

There are some contact mic making instructions here.

Listen out for a bang...

  1. Hey Ru,

that sounds like a cool idea with some interesting directions to go in,

just to let you know you can get the piezo's from maplins(london road) for approx £1 without the plastic casing, so you dont have the hassle of having to remove it whilst risking breaking the piezo in the process.

Also, just some suggestions, you will probably be looking to use an amplitude threshold, so when a noise is loud enough it triggers the video event. As an alternative to flash, this can be done quite easily with processing using the Sonia Library's live input function, which could use a microphone or piezo. If thats what you were after let me know and i can show you some sketches.
